Engynious Launches Solar Energy Programme for UK Schools
PV roof top installations for more than 100 schools targeted
Engynious has entered the United Kingdom's renewable energy market. Together with its partner Winch Energy, the company is carrying out a programme to offer schools in the UK clean electricity from photovoltaic systems installed on their roofs. The total size of the programme, could reach up to 5 MWp equaling PV systems for up to 170 schools.
"For the Engynious Group, this is the largest programme and its first in the UK market to date. Our tailored solutions provide distributed energy production combined with on-site consumption, a major pillar for the world’s future energy supply", says Gregor Loukidis, Director of Engynious Clean Power (UK) Ltd.
Engynious co-develops and designs the installations and then retains long-term operation, monitoring and maintenance. Its services are provided by Engynious Clean Power (UK) Ltd and Engynious GmbH (Germany). Engynious and other investors in the programme will benefit from the UK’s Feed-in-Tariff for 20 years and the sale of electricity to the schools over 25 years.
"Schools benefit from having an off-grid energy supply and lower cost energy than traditional energy supplies that are subject to energy price rises. By ring-fencing part of their electricity costs, schools can better manage their budgets and students gain from the teaching and learning opportunities that having solar PV on their roofs affords," says Nick Wrigley, Chairman of Winch Energy.
The PV systems will each have a power of between 20 kWp and 50 kWp depending on the solar resource and roof conditions onsite. The programme was launched in March 2013 with the first installation successfully completed in July 2013.
