An unassuming box called „Engynious Gateway“ opens up vast new opportunities to monitor and optimize energy production of our PV systems as well as the on-site energy consumption of our customers:
In a first phase, all relevant meter data is transferred real-time via our Gateway to the Engynious server. This eliminates the need for manual collection and transmission of meter data which fully automates an essential process required for the efficient and automated billing of distributed renewable energy. Additionally, five-minute load profiles (import, export, production and consump-tion) are available for analysis in order to optimize the on-site energy use of our customers. Imple-mented on the Rasberry-Pi platform, the Engynious Gateway utilizes an open source Linux operating system which allows easy integration of additional future applications. By integrating inverters, we no longer rely on standard data loggers sold on the market allowing significant and sustainable reduction of operational and investment costs.
The development of the Engynious Gateway represents a first milestone towards “Internet of Things”, e.g. at our PV systems for UK Schools. In the next phase we plan to add demand management as well as the integration of sensors and energy storage. This will allow our customers to further optimize their on-site consumption and better match solar generation with demand.
