Engynious becomes solar power provider for municipal housing
Tenants of the municipal housing association WBG Wolfen mbH in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, may now benefit directly from solar energy supplied by photovoltaic systems installed on the roofs of their residences (“on-site consumption of solar energy”).
„We open new horizons for the supply of electricity to tenants”, explains Dr. Karl Zrost, Managing Director of Engynious GmbH. The company is currently installing multiple photovoltaic plants on the roofs of residences of the local municipal housing association WBG Wolfen mbH. On request, tenants may procure solar energy generated on-site directly from Engynious, and when solar resource is not available, from the local utility. A cooperation with the Stadtwerke Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH enables this on-site consumption opportunity.
Facilitated by Germany’s Renewable Energies Act (“EEG”), distributed energy production combined with on-site consumption is in itself nothing new. However, so far this option has not been available to tenants. By nature not being owner of roofs, these residents cannot supply themselves with electricity generated on their own building at lower cost. “We make it happen and engage tenants in Germany’s energy transformation. Together with the municipal housing association WBG Wolfen mbH and the utility Stadtwerke Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH we have developed this leading solution for tenants. As a pioneer in this field, we aim to realize many more photovoltaic plants on municipal buildings to strengthen our role as a provider of solar power. Our concept offers benefits for all parties involved and considers all applicable utility fees in the pricing“, adds Dr. Zrost.
“By utilizing solar power from the on-site rooftop system, tenants will immediately reduce their electricity bills. On-site consumption avoids transmission of power through the public grid and therefore certain network tariffs do not apply. Soon the tenants will be informed in detail about this new offer. By agreement between the tenant and Engynious, the mix of clean solar and utility power is ready to flow“, states Mr. Hans-Tilo Winkelmann, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH.
Engynious acts as full service provider for this project with a delivery package comprising everything from the project development, design, installation, financing to the long term operation, monitoring and maintenance of the photovoltaic plants. Completed and connected to the grid within three weeks, the installed capacity of more than 150 kWp for the first three residences will provide solar power directly to 95 households.
For WBG Wolfen mbH this is already the second on-site consumption project realized with Engynious. The first photovoltaic plant was installed on the carports newly installed at the historic town-hall of Bitterfeld-Wolfen in 2011 - since then the solar power generated has been provided to directly power parts of the municipal complex.
“The ‘Energiewende’ has arrived – and we are contributing locally with photovoltaic power plants on our buildings“, states Mr. Jürgen Voigt, Managing Director of the municipal housing association WBG Wolfen mbH.
Engynious offers co-operations with municipal building associations, utilities and real estate corporations interested in providing clean solar power at lower prices to their tenants and customers.
